We hear it all the time.
I wish I could do more theatre, but I just don’t have the time.
I used to play music. I miss it, but I don’t know how to get involved.
I want to be a choreographer, but I don’t know how to practice.
People are searching for ways to be creative, express themselves, and be involved in a community. The lengthy rehearsal periods and intense time commitments of a traditional mainstage play or musical is simply not an option for everyone.
The Theatre and Music Society (TAMS) was created to fill that gap.
TAMS events:
- Have zero or limited rehearsals so that everyone can find a way to be involved.
- Are open to all skill levels to encourage new faces and foster relationships.
- Feature a mix of polished performances alongside educational events so that everyone can learn, grow, and show off.
TAMS programming generally falls into two categories: Practice and Performance
Practice
Practice events focus on education, training, and artistic development.
These programs create opportunities for participants to explore new skills, collaborate with others, and grow as artists in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Generally low- or zero-cost events that run for a few hours, the Practice events are flexible and can be tailored to suit the needs of the community.
These could include:
- Table Readings: Scripts are meant to be read aloud. Grab a binder and a piece of pizza and let’s read it together.
- Workshops: Want to learn how to design? Direct? Approach Shakespeare? We can learn the basics and best practices together.
- Dance Intensives: Let’s all spend an afternoon laughing and learning the Hot Honey Rag

Performance
Performance events create opportunities for local artists to shine in front of an audience.
These showcases are polished and professional, but still are achieved with minimal time commitments and accessibility that define the TAMS model.
Performance events might include:
- Musical Cabarets: Local singers and musicians, some veterans and some new faces, can come together to perform their favorite pieces for friends and family.
- Staged Readings: New works or favorite pieces are presented with scripts and light staging, with a focus on storytelling and artistry.
- Concerts: Hear your favorite (or perhaps a long-forgotten) show, performed live.

Our Approach
Our events are designed to reduce unnecessary barriers to participation while maintaining strong artistic standards and encouraging collaboration across disciplines.
As TAMS grows, local chapters will continue developing programming that reflects the needs and creative energy of their communities while benefiting from shared organizational support and national infrastructure.
